Melvin Wells, III

Program Coordinator

Mel is Program Coordinator of OneStep and the New Haven Prevention Council. A native of Hamden, CT, he attended both Hyde School of Sports Medicine & Health Science and Hamden Hall Country Day School. Mel was awarded a selection as scholar athlete of the year and multiple academic and athletic all conference selections while playing football. He was also selected for the Princeton Peer Leadership Program at Hamden Hall Country Day School. Mel attended Curry College where as a double major he studied Psychology and Philosophy. He was involved in the Student Athletes Leadership Program and was a member of the Curry College football team where he earned a selection as team captain, becoming the second African American captain of the football team in college history. Concluding his time at Curry College, Mel was selected as orator of the class of 2021, where on May 23 of that year Wells delivered a powerful speech that echoed the importance of determination and perseverance.

Tayshalee Hernandez

Program Co-Coordinator

Tashy is Co-Coordinator of OneStep and she is a proud Wilbur Cross Alumni and a community involvement enthusiast. An aspiring social worker, Tashy is dedicated to making a positive impact and is currently working on a degree at Southern Connecticut State University. Spreading kindness one project at a time, she is all about getting involved and making a difference (one-step) at a time.
