New Haven Prevention Council: Image
The New Haven Prevention Council (NHPC) was established in 2016 by a core group of community members and organizations in New Haven committed to working together on implementing strategies for decreasing instances of substance use among youth in our community. Programs, such as OneStep, were developed as part of NHPC's mission to reach youth where they are and enact positive change around the social norms of our community.

We use SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework to guide our efforts to ensure that we are adequately understanding and addressing the substance misuse and related behavior health problems specific to the youth of New Haven.

Our coalition is composed of 12 sectors:
Youth
Parents
Businesses
Media
Schools
Youth-serving organizations
Law enforcement
Religious/fraternal organizations
Civic or volunteer groups
Healthcare professionals
State and local government
Substance abuse organizations

NHPC is supported by Connecticut Strategic Coalitions Initiative Grant from the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
